Wayne (Cc
Mccartney) Scott
Apr 7, 1947 — Dec 27, 2022
Prentiss "Wayne" Scott (radio name CC McCartney) passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Hendersonville, TN, on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. He was 75.
Wayne was born on April 7, 1947, in San Antonio, TX, to Edith Tinsley Scott and John Benjamin Scott. He grew up in Corpus Christi, TX, and is a graduate of W.B. Ray High School, Class of 1965. He had lived in the Nashville, TN, area for the past 34 years.
CC had a successful 50-year career as a radio personality in Top 40, Rock and Country formats, primarily in Houston and Nashville. Concurrently, beginning in 1990, CC hosted his nationwide country syndicated radio show the "Back Forty," followed by "Climbing Country." He was also owner and voice talent for "CC McCartney Voice Imaging." Throughout CC's career, he received many prestigious honors, including being nominated by the Country Music Association (CMA) as Large Market Personality of the Year four times and being inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in 2008. He retired from the airwaves in 2015.
Wayne married the love of his life, Sharon Link, on February 12, 1983, in Houston, to whom he was married just shy of 40 years. They were childhood sweethearts in Corpus Christi and reconnected later in life, becoming a blended family with six children.
Wayne is survived by his wife Sharon; sons Chris and Chad; stepchildren Shelly, Lindsey, and Dana; brother Randy; sister Gail; half-sister Vella; sister-in-law Karen; grandsons Brandon and Brody; nine step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Edith and John Scott, stepson Mark McCall, stepson-in-law Matthew Haley, and brother-in-law John Wilhoit.
It was Wayne's wish that his life be celebrated through music and memories. Some of his ashes are being scattered at North Padre Island in Corpus Christi, followed by a Celebration of Life at Mason Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. on June 7, 2025, in Mason, TX. A graveside service will immediately follow at Gooch Cemetery, where many family members have been interred (including Banta, Passmore and Tinsley ancestors). Arrangements are being handled by Mason Funeral Home. As Wayne would say, "Well, alright then…CC you later."
