Wayne Lehmberg, age 73, of Mason, departed this earth on May 20, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas.  Wayne was born October 5th, 1949, in Uvalde, Texas to Dan G. and Helen Shawcross Lehmberg.  He was reared in the Art community of Mason County, attended the Mason schools, was a graduate of Texas A&M University (Class of 1972), and SMU's Southwestern Graduate School of Banking.  He was the retired Agency Manager of the Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Offices in Mason and Menard.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife Kim Lehmberg of Mason, sons Bill D. Lehmberg of Mason, and David Lehmberg of Big Spring; a brother, Tim Lehmberg (Melanie) of Fredericksburg; stepchildren Katie Schmidt (Gregg Wallace) of Sausalito, California, Dax Hooten (Becky) of Leakey, and Denay Hooten Hooks (Sam) of Lubbock, along with grandchildren Drake Hooten, Hudson Hooks, Hannah Hooks, and Hadley Hooks who will greatly miss their "POP".  He is preceded in death by his parents, his maternal grandparents, H.B. "Harry" and Clare Mae Billings Shawcross of Uvalde, his paternal grandparents, Dan F. and Ella Jordan Lehmberg of Mason.

Wayne loved coming back home to live in Mason County after college where he was so proud to be a lifelong resident and serve the fine people of Mason.  He worked at the Mason National Bank part-time during high school and while attending Texas A & M.  He joined the bank staff upon graduation in July 1972.  He was elected to serve on the Board of Directors in 1975.  He was promoted in his banking career to assistant Vice-President, Vice-President, and then to Executive Vice President in November 1984. Wayne was a beloved member of the banking staff and for many years he oversaw personnel.  He was respected and admired for his genuine, caring nature of each of the bank's employees.

Wayne loved and supported the Mason Punchers and Texas Aggies.  He was involved in the Mason Jaycees, Operation Orphans, his Church, Emmaus and served on the Mason School Board for 14 years, most of those as President.  Wayne's Faith in God guided him to participate and serve with his special church family. He was forever thankful for friends and Emmaus family.  He led and helped coordinate many Walks to Emmaus.

Wherever Wayne went in his life, he increased his extended family.  His employment as an insurance agent started in 1993 at Mason County Farm Bureau.  He did his best for customers and the Farm Bureau.  This desire won him many awards and trips.  He was promoted to agency manager of Mason and Menard Counties in 2010.  Many came to his office for their insurance needs, but many came by for his counseling, welcoming smile or his listening ear.  He cherished his years there and retired in 2018 after juggling his career and out-of-town dialysis.

Wayne continued his courteous, caring, and witty ways with the people he came in contact with.  He will be greatly missed by the Kerrville Davita Dialysis Center. He had a warm greeting for all.  His special treatment was quickly returned by his amazing nurses/technicians, doctors and fellow patients.  Many of his medical Friends would nick-name him - Superman, Bruce Wayne, and The Man, the Myth, the Legend.  All those who cared for Wayne knew his faith and love for his Heavenly Father carried him home to be free of his mortal body and on to be with his loved ones that had gone before him.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm at Mason Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. The funeral service will be held at the River of Life Church in Mason on Thursday, May 25th, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow in the Gooch Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Bill Fritz Lehmberg, Scott McMillan, Randy Moore, Del Roy Reichenau, Paul Smith, and Ted Smith.

Memorials may be directed to the Rett Syndrome Foundation, River of Life Church, or another Charity of your choice in Wayne's name.
