Obituary

Viola Elizabeth "Sandy" Miller, age 93 of Mason, Texas passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016. She was born December 10, 1922 to Isaac and Beaulah Mae (Mason) Dorsett. Sandy attended school until the sixth grade. At that time, she went to work with her mother and grandmother cleaning homes and working in the cotton fields. She married Prince Jefferson in 1936. They had twin daughters, Josephine and Delphine in 1938. Sandy and Prince divorced a few years later. She moved to Austin and earned her beautician's license in the early forties. Sandy made extra money doing family members and friends' hair.

She married Jake Miller in Menard, Texas in 1947. Sandy and Jake had six children, Terry, James "Hankie", Kurt "Wee Gee", Sharen "Sister", Marcus, and Beverly "Bev". They raised their children out "Across the Creek" on her family's land. Sandy and Jake were married for 31 years. She attended the First Baptist Church and she was an active member of the community.

She worked for many years as a housekeeper. She was also a short order cook at Aunt Hattie's café. She would later work at the Senior Citizens' Center, Head Start, and the Steady Steps daycare center as a cook and custodian. Sandy worked at Steady Steps until she retired at 78.

She is survived by her sons James Miller (Audrey) of Tampa, Kurt Miller (Nessa) of San Angelo, Bev Miller (Ruthie) of Austin, and her daughter Sharen Miller-Hicks (Tommy) of Ft. Worth;17 grandchildren; Kevin Miller, Terence Miller, Tracy Miller, Shawn Miller, Nicholas Miller, Stormy Miller, Richard Miller, Ashleigh Miller, Marcus Miller, Jonathan Miller, Kresa Miller, Keyshonna Miller McNeil, Ronnie Mae Miller, Aa`rieyana Violet Miller, Kreshara Miller, Jamil Jefferson and Jackie Lynn Owens 21 great grandchildren, 19 great great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Shirley Mae Revada, her husband Jake, her daughters Delphine and Josephine,
her sons Marcus and Terry and a grandson Mark Revada.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the prayers, cards, calls, floral arrangements, and warm acts of kindness during this time. We feel blessed to have so many wonderful friends and family members. Thank you for reminding us of just how many lives Sandy touched. This means more than you will ever know. May God bless and keep you all.

Visitation with the family will be Friday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 8, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Mason. Interment will follow in the Mason Jackson Cemetery.
