Velma Lee Scantlin, of Mason, passed away in Llano on Monday, December 8, at the age of 94. Mrs. Scantlin is survived by 5 children Bobby Ray Scantlin and wife Karen, of Mason, Tony Douglas Scantlin and wife Mary Jo, of Brady, Janie Brewer, of Llano, Linda Tear and husband Bob, of Mason and Christy Scantlin of Brady, 2 brothers Howard Sanders of Brady and Marvin Sanders and wife Helen of Midland, 21 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three children Billy Joe Scantlin, Beverly Jean Scantlin Pike and Barbara Scantlin Priendorfer, brothers Lloyd Sanders, Dee Sanders, Flem Sanders, Arlan Sanders and sisters Hattie Scantlin, Maggie Scantlin, Mabel Porter and Fay Tuckness.
Velma was born on May 14, 1920 in Mason to Aaron Malander Sanders and Lillie May Schuessler Sanders. She lived most of her life in Mason County. As a child Velma was baptized into the Nazarene Church.
Velma was a loving mother and grandmother to 4 generations of her family. She enjoyed baking and cooking and had a real green thumb. She loved her flowers and vegetable garden and Velma could make just about anything grow. She also enjoyed working in her yard and weeds were not allowed! Velma loved all of her family, but it was no secret that she had a special place in her heart for her grandson Jerry Roberts.
Funeral services for Velma Lee Scantlin will be held graveside at the Gooch Cemetery in Mason on Wednesday, December 10, at 2:00 p.m with J. D. Sanders officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Wesley Brewer, J. W. Brewer, Bobby Tatsch, Aaron Watson, Leroy Sanders and Jerry Roberts.
