Thomas Elbert Kent was born on October 9, 1930, in Rising Star, Texas as the youngest child to Emma and Smith Kent. He went to be with his Lord on July 20, 2024.

Thomas was a graduate of Rising Star High School; it was there that he met his love Mary Francis Lyon. They attended every high school homecoming for over 40 years as did the other 13 members of their class. Thomas joined the Army in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1953. After Serving in the Army, Thomas came back to his hometown and married his love on February 24, 1953. The couple settled in Knox City where Thomas owned and operated the Whites Auto Store. After retirement, they moved to Mason, Texas, where Thomas worked part-time at Mason County News. He enjoyed golf, playing cards and his family. Outside of his family, Thomas's great love was music. During his Army years, Thomas shared the stage with the likes of Vic Demone and Roy Orbison. Thomas was a local favorite, drawing crowds to fairs, stages and local music venues with his beautiful baritone voice and as a virtuoso guitarist.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Hershel Kent, Melba Cathey and Martha Pruitt, his wife and one daughter Kary Kent Tyler. Thomas is survived by one daughter Kathi Turner of Boerne, Texas, grand-children Angela Turner, Lacey Turner, Kareese Boone, Katy Tyler and Colin Tyler, and great-grandchildren, Alexis Boone, Jerimiah Boone, Brady Baker, Blake Baker, Emmy Baker and David Schooley.

On Saturday, August 03, 2024, Thomas will be laid to rest at 11:00 a.m. in a graveside service in the Rising Star Cemetery.
