Terry "Snuffy"
Smith
d. Nov 28, 2018
Terry Eckert "Snuffy" Smith went to his eternal home on November 26, 2018. Terry graduated from Mason High School in 1972. He lived and worked on the family ranch his entire life. In 2012 Terry joined his mother, Carolyn, in the Knopp Assisted Living facility in Fredericksburg. As they were in life, they were also in death, by each other's side until the end.
Terry loved country music and made several trips to Branson, Missouri with the Hillbilly Hits fan club. He kept up with the club and it's events as best he could and dreamed of going on one more trip with them.
Terry spent countless hours helping with fund raising activities in the community and would always make a pecan pie when there was need of donations. His need to be involved was embraced by the community he loved. He served as an usher at the early service for First United Methodist Church, kept the coffee pot full at Short Stop, announced hundreds of matches at Mason tennis events and enjoyed just being around where ever a crowd gathered.
Like many people with disabilities, there were things most people take for granted that were difficult for him but there were things he did well that were difficult for most others. He watched the stock market in the morning newspaper and using some method that made since only to him, was able to amass an impressive portfolio of investments.
Ranching was his heritage but not necessarily his passion. Getting up and going early was no problem because he could ride a horse and sleep at the same time. However, he never failed to make it back to the pens and usually had some livestock with him.
He enjoyed playing dominoes with his grandmother as a youngster and later with residents at the care facility. He usually won but he was also the only one who could still keep score. Humm…
Terry is survived by his mother Carolyn Smith of Fredericksburg, brother Ted Smith of Mason, two nieces, Heather Lock and husband Brandon of Brookeland, Texas, and Brigett Mikulik and husband Garrett of San Angelo, Texas, three great nieces, Addison Lock, Avery Mikulik and Annalise Smith and one great nephew, Grayson Lock. He was preceded in death by his father C.H. Smith, grandparents Cecil and Marie Smith and Kinney and Zilla Eckert and one nephew Koby Smith all of Mason.
A memorial service will be held o Sunday, December 9, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mason. Visitation with the family will follow the service.
Memorials in his honor may be made to the Heart of Texas Country Music Museum in Brady or to the charity of your choice.
Terry was loved and will be greatly missed.
