Roy Carl Lehmberg, of Mason, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, at the age of 89. Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mason. Interment with military honors will follow in the Gooch Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons Chad and Matt Schmidt, Ben and Will Lehmberg, Chase and Cade Smith, David Crouch and Ross Lehmberg ( in memorium). Honorary pallbearers are the rest of his grandchildren, their spouses and great-grandchildren.

Roy was born on November 22, 1924 in Mason County to Walter Carl Lehmberg and Lydia Amelia (Jordan) Lehmberg. He was raised in the Art Community and attended school at Art and Mason, graduating from Mason High School in 1942. While in high school Roy played football, track, baseball and of course, played tennis. Roy and Rae enlisted in the Army together and were in the Pacific Theater being involved in some of the hardest fighting of the war: New Guinea, Leyte, Luzon, Mindoro and Mindanao before serving occupation duty in Japan. Honors and medals received included the American Defense, Asain Pacific with 3 Bronze Stars, 1 Arrowhead, Distinguished Unit Award, Good Conduct, Phillipine Liberation with 2 Bronze stars, Combat Infantry Badge and Victory Medals. During the Korean War Roy was called to active duty again, serving stateside in the artillery.

After World War II, Roy attended school at Tarleton Junior College where he played football, tennis and pole vaulted. He graduated from SMU, where he played tennis, with a BBA in business. While at SMU he met and fell in love with Emma Jean Roberts. They were married on January 25, 1950. They moved back to Mason where Roy farmed and ranched. He and Rae and their spouses were also co-owners of the Riverside Store on the Llano River where Keller's is now located..

Roy started in the irrigation business in 1952 and was also involved in several other retail ventures including Western Auto and Community Service and Supply. He was the first real estate agent in Mason County and started Lehmberg Real Estate. Although Roy was a hard working man, he always found time for family and he enjoyed playing tennis as long as his health would allow.

Survivors include his children Mark Lehmberg and wife Judy, Debra Schmidt and husband Dick, Bruce Lehmberg and wife Juhree, Brenda Lange and husband Greg, Paula Crouch and husband Sammy all of Mason 15 grandchildren: Marcy Young and husband Jarrod, Britny Fowler and husband Kelly, Chad Schmidt and wife Rachel, Kaye Lynne Jordan and husband Ryan, Matt Schmidt and wife Sherry, Ben Lehmberg and wife Kristie, Will Lehmberg and wife Shelby, Katy Davis and husband Zach, Chase Smith and wife Angela, Cade Smith, Salah Eckert and husband Kyle, David Crouch, Diane Davis and husband Conlee, Samantha Bankston and husband Jason, Tantha Ake and husband Rowdy and 17 great-grandchildren: Rylan Jordan, Kinsley Jordan, Keltan Jordan, Jackson Lehmberg, Gracie Lehmberg, Carlton Schmidt, Camille Schmidt, Heidi Smith, Landyn Smith, Emersyn Young, Miles Young Clara Schmidt, Pierce Fowler, Lillie Davis, Sadie Smith, Kerry Bankston and Arabelle Fowler. Roy was preceded in death by his wife Jean Lehmberg, a grandson Ross Lehmberg. He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters Walton, Victor, Fritz and Rae Lehmberg, Bernice Schmidt and Benellen Hofmann.
