Rev. Roger Q. Burtner, of Brady, passed away on Thursday, June 23, at the age of 97. Rev. Burtner is survived by his wife Jane Marie Burtner, of Brady, three children : George Dworsak of Brady, Robert R. Dworsak of Bloomsburg, PA and Christine Farner and husband Cody of Fredonia, four grandchildren : Matthew Dworsak, Mallory Bottesch, Jessie Farmer and Brant Farmer and four great-grandchildren: Bryce and Emmett Dworsak and Colin and Declan Bottesch. He was preceded in death by a son Richard R. Dworsak.

Roger Quentin Burtner was born on November 30, 1918 in Butler, Pennsylvania to Forest Harmon Burtner and Mary Lena Giles Burtner. Roger was part of a large family as he had 10 brothers and 6 sisters! Roger had numerous nieces and nephews, who affectionately called him "Uncle Bud," as "Bud" was his nickname at home. He was raised in Butler and it was here that he developed a life-long love of hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed turkey hunting. After graduating from high school, Roger attended Taylor University and then Wesley Theological Seminary and was ordained as a United Methodist Minister.

During the Korean War, Rev. Burtner joined the Air Force and served as a chaplain for 5 years. During his time in the air force he was stationed in Korea, San Antonio and Alaska. He liked his tour of duty in Alaska as it allowed him to enjoy his love of hunting and fishing and his love of outdoors in general.

After leaving the Air Force in 1958, Rev. Burtner continued his studies at Emory University and came within hours of earning his Doctor of Divinity. In March of 1961 he married Jane Marie Kustanbauder and they have enjoyed 55 years together. Rev. Burtner served congregations in the United Methodist Confrences in Pennsylvania and Texas, including appointments in Llano and Mason, Texas, until his retirement. He continued to minister to nursing homes and by visiting whenever needed. His service truly lasted a lifetime.

A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, July 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Brady. A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service.
