Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, teacher and mentor Robert Hofmann Brandenberger, 71, of Granbury, passed away April 16, 2020 with family by his side, having succumbed to Alzheimer's.

Robert, or Bob (or Bob-o) as he was better known, was born June 16, 1948, in Fredericksburg, Texas, to Silas and Patsy Brandenberger. He helped run the family cattle ranch, while also getting involved in band as well as developing a love for the outdoors (hunting and fishing).  Bob graduated from Mason High School in 1966 and continued his education at Southern Methodist University where he received both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music. While at SMU, he met the love of his life, Cheryl (Shelly) Hill, whom he married December 27, 1970.

Over the next twenty-eight years, Bob was a band director, teacher and mentor to numerous students from junior high through collegiate levels. He began his teaching career at Nimitz High School, followed by Forest Meadow Junior High and Lake Highlands High School before returning to his alma mater SMU, where he was the Associate then Head Director of the SMU Mustang Band from 1977 to 1994. He concluded his career in music education at Liberty Junior High in 1998.  His bands won numerous performance awards. Bob received the Diamond M Club Award for outstanding service to SMU, served on the Texas Bandmaster's Association Board of Directors and was elected to the Texas Bandmasters Hall of Fame because of his commitment to excellence, compassion and loyalty to his students. After retirement from teaching, music remained an important part of Bob's life. He returned once again to SMU to assist his friend and Mustang bandsman in directing the SMU Alumni Band.

Family was important to Bob. He enjoyed playing toss and catcher for son BJ, a pitcher; attending daughter Brynne's musical performances; spending time with his five precious grandchildren; fishing; traveling to the ranch to check on the cattle and collecting mesquite wood for his creative projects; grilling burgers and smoking ribs for band get-togethers, family, and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father Patsy and Silas Brandenberger, Jr., brother Frank Brandenberger, grandparents Lois and Leo Hofmann, and grandparents Bertha and Silas Brandenberger, Sr.

Bob Brandenberger is survived by his wife Shelly of nearly 50 years; daughter Brynne Komonchak and husband Andy; son BJ Brandenberger and wife Elisha; sister Ann Grote; brother Andy Brandenberger and wife Stacey; brother-in-law Carl Hill, Jr. and wife Patricia; grandchildren Andy "boy", Lucy, Hudson, Harper and Jackson; nieces, nephew, cousins, other extended family members and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gooch Cemetery. Due to the Coronavirus situation, we ask that you wear masks and practice social distancing.

A Celebration of Life in the Dallas area will be held at a later date due to the coronavirus status.
