Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Orta, 70, also known as "Ricky", on June 15, 2026. He departed from this world peacefully in his home after a hard-fought battle against lung cancer.

Born on October 27, 1955, at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Tx, Richard was the beloved son of Romolo Orta and Linda Bowen and adopted son of Juan and Clara Bustillos. He grew up in Sinton, Tx then later settled in the Mason, Tx and Brady, Tx area with his family. Richard Orta was a respectable individual who led a fulfilling life. He was fortunate enough to experience many beautiful places as he traveled around the country throughout his lifelong career as a pipeliner. He will be remembered for his tenacious work ethic and generous nature to all who had the pleasure of getting to know him.

Richard shared 35 years of his life and love with his devoted wife, Rita May Orta. He also leaves behind 4 children; Cristian Orta, Clarissa Zapata, Adrian Orta, and Rodney Orta, along with 11 grandchildren; Brooklynn Orta, Mason Madrigal, Oaklynn Ramirez, Carson Carpenter, Easton Zapata, Kipton Zapata, Adrian Orta Jr., Kailah Orta, Stephen Orta, Isla Orta, and Annabell Orta. He also leaves behind two siblings; Zelda Orta and Juan Orta along with several surviving relatives and close acquaintances who will deeply miss him.

Richard is proceeded in death by his parents; Romolo Orta, Linda Bowen, Sheila Orta, Juan Bustillos and Clara Bustillos, along with two brothers; Romolo "Ron" Orta and Robin Orta; and son, Richard Orta Jr.

A visitation service will take place on June 19, 2026, at Mason Funeral Home beginning at 5:00pm, along with a rosary service beginning at 7:00pm. The funeral service, to honor and celebrate the life of Richard Orta, will be held on June 20, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Mason, Tx at 10:00am with a burial service to follow at Gooch Cemetery.
