Richard Lloyd Lindley, 76, of Mason, TX, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 21, 2022, with his wife, family and friends by his side.

Richard was born on April 3, 1946, to Glea Dawson Lindley Jr. and Vivian Nettie Dunk Lindley in Houston, Texas.  Following graduation from Bellaire High school in Houston, he attended Texas Lutheran College attaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.  While attending TLC, he met the love of his life Joan Kettner.  Following the completion of his two year military commitment with the U.S. Army, including a one year tour in Vietnam, they were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mason, Texas, on August 23, 1970.

Following their marriage, they lived in Galveston working at the University of Texas Medical Branch.  Richard worked as a research assistant in the department of Neurosurgery while Joan served as Head Nurse of the newly established Neurosurgical ICU.  After two years they moved to Fredericksburg and Richard began a career in banking at the Austin National Bank and later at the State of Texas Department of Banking while Joan continued her nursing career.  After 34 years of living in Fredericksburg and retirement, Richard and Joan built the home of their dreams on their ranch in Mason.  In Mason, as in Fredericksburg, they were very active in their church.  Richard enjoyed he many volunteer activities at St. Paul Lutheran Church and the many friendships he developed in the congregation.  He enjoyed a special friendship with his long time neighbor from Fredericksburg,, Jr. Moellering.

Richard loved to share the beauty of the ranch with his family and friends, especially during hunting and wildflower seasons.  Christmas was his favorite time of the year, this year was no exception as he decorated the house and the tree just days before his final hospitalization.  He loved to display the electric trains from his childhood for his niece, nephews, and their children.

Richard is survived by his loving wife Joan Lindley of Mason, brother James D. LindleyMD and his wife Janet of Fredericksburg, sister-in-law Henrietta and Don Keener, sister-in-law Diane Esquell and husband James of Mason, nieces and nephews Megan Jemison, Michael G. Lindley, Adrien L. Lindley, James D. Lindley Jr., Kimberly Potter, Patrick Potter, Roxanne Crenwelge and Jason Esquell and Great nieces and nephews Vivian Jemison, Phillip Jemison, Jack Lindley and Bethany Crenwelge along with their dear friends Jr. and Debbie Moellering of Fredericksburg.

In recent years, he fought a valiant battle against cancer.  He went to be with his Lord on December 21, 2022, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital in Fredericksburg.  The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and employees of hill Country Memorial Hospital as well as the physicians at Texas Oncology in Fredericksburg who cared for him during these last difficult years.  The family expresses their sincere thanks to Pastor Fred Krebs for his spiritual support throughout these difficult times.

Service were held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, followed by interment at the Gooch Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers are Michael Lindley, Phillip Jemison, Patrick Potter, Jason Esquell, Doug Crenwelge, Neil Henke.  Honorary pallbearers are Harvey Moellering Jr., Tommy Durst, Fred Kettner, Don Keener, Larry Walker, Steve Klein, John Lamb and Bruce Latour.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Mason, Texas, or a charity of your choice.
