Patsy Marie (Kothmann) Ziriax
September 4, 1929 - September 18, 2026
On a beautiful September morning, Patsy Marie (Kothmann) Ziriax shed her earthly bonds and entered into heavenly life in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Patsy was born at home in Mason on Wednesday, September 4, 1929, to her beloved parents, Clarence and Mary (Kettner) Kothmann. She attended Mason schools all her life and graduated as Salutatorian of the MHS Class of 1946. Upon graduation, she attended Texas Christian University for a time, but soon returned to marry her sweetheart, Donald B. Ziriax, on August 14, 1948, in the lovely backyard garden of her parent’s home. Donald and Patsy shared 62 wonderful years together, and raised four children: Donna, Kathy, Tim and Pat. She was Donald’s helpmate and right hand “man”.
Patsy was a wonderful wife and mother, and she also served the Mason community she loved in so many ways. As a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, she served on many committees, taught Sunday School, and sang in the chancel choir. She was a charter member of the Riata Service Organization and remained active for as long as she was able to do so. One of her proudest accomplishments was being instrumental in the updating of the Mason City Pool, acquiring the filtration system, and later transferring running of it to the City of Mason. The pool still serves Mason youth and adults alike, all these many years later. Patsy worked for the livestock auction in Mason and San Saba for several years. She enjoyed playing tennis, golf and bridge, and was VERY competitive, as her family and friends can attest. She had a beautiful yard, and until only the last few years, she mowed it herself and pulled the weeds in her flower beds, for she was a perfectionist in this regard. She was an excellent cook and her family will particularly remember her pies--TEXAS!--and her great grandmother Jordan’s Thanksgiving dressing, and will make sure it is passed down through the generations. She was an accomplished seamstress, and the Christmas angels, tree skirts and ornaments she made for her children and grandchildren still adorn their trees and always will.
Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, her parents, Clarence and Mary K. Kothmann, a grandson-in-law, and two great grandchildren.
She is survived by her beloved children, Donna Ziriax, Kathy McKay (Don), Tim Ziriax (Susy), and Patrick Ziriax (Lisa). She also leaves her grandchildren, who called her “Granma”: Cara, Julie, Mandy (Rob), Carrie (Jim), Will (Elizabeth), Jessica (Nathan), Bobby Don (Donna), and Linsey. Also surviving Patsy are 17 great grandchildren, and two very special ladies in her life, Courtney Scantlin and Tereasa Thompson, as well as beloved neighbors, relatives and friends.
This isn’t goodbye--just meet you later, on those streets of gold.
Proverbs 31:10
“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.”
