Patsy Brewer, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on Friday, July 29, at the age of 78. Ms Brewer is survived by a niece, Sharon Jeffus of Salem, Missouri, two great nephews Jonathn Jeffus and Josh Jeffus, 1st cousins Jerry Gamel, Naomi Symonds and Kenneth Gamel and many other cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Charles Elmer Brewer Jr. and a nephew Charles Douglas Brewer.

Visitation with the family will be Friday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. at Mason Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held graveside at the Long Mountain Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 5.

Patsy Brewer was born August 9, 1937 in Streeter to C. Elmer Brewer and Mae Gamel Brewer. She grew up in the Streeter community and attended grade school there in a one-room school house. She attended Mason schools grade sixth through 12, graduating from high school in 1955. After graduation she and her mother moved to Arizona to be with her father as he was working in that state.

In 1957 Patsy went to work for the Federal Government under the Department of Interior, Bureau of Indian affairs. Her career was in office administration as well as budget and accounting. Her place of employment was within the Navajo Indian Reservation in northern Arizona where she lived for 17 years; living among and working with the Native Americans. In 1974 she was transferred to Gallup, NM, a town located just outside of the reservation. She remained with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, retiring in 1992 with 35 years of service. Patsy earned Special Achievement Awards, one in 1973 and the other in 1978, both for job performance exceeding the requirements of her position.

Patsy loved her work and found the Indian people to be warm and friendly. She also took care of her mother who had been totally blind for 33 years, going blind when Patsy was 11 years old.

After the passing of her parents, Patsy began to travel and has visited Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, Disneyland, Yellowstone National Park and The Grand Tetons, Mount Rushmore, The Bahamas, Washington, D.C. and other places of interest in 26 states.

Patsy moved to Springfield, Missouri in 1998 to be near her brother and his family. It was hard for her to leave the culture and people of New Mexico and Arizona where she had lived for 41 years. In Springfield, Missouri she was active in the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary where she served as Recording Secretary and Vice President, and was a member for over 15 years. She loved the Lord and was forever thankful that he took care of her throughout life. She served as Secretary to her Sunday School class at the Baptist Church. Even though she lived and worked elsewhere, home was always Mason and Streeter and Patsy never forgot the people involved in her early life and those she went to school with.
