Patricia "Patsy"
Waddell Behrens
Nov 16, 1934 — Sep 26, 2019
Patricia (Patsy) Louise Waddell Behrens went to her Heavenly home with Jesus on September 26, 2019. She was surrounded by beloved family who prayed her all the way home. Patsy was born to Dan and Lillie Mae (Robertson) Waddell on November 16, 1934, in Mason Texas. Mature beyond her years, she started working at eleven years old in the ticket booth of the Odeon Theater. A true beauty she was invited to model for Clayton Schmidt, the local photographer, at the age of 14. Her sweet smile and sparkling blue eyes attracted the attention of Damon Behrens, and after his return from WWII, they were married on February 8, 1949. Their initial attraction never dimmed and their love story grew to include two daughters, Sherry Mae and Darlene Kay. Originally involved in the family ranching and grocery business, Damon, Patsy and the girls would move to Corpus Christi, Texas during the terrible droughts of the 1950's. Patsy's drive and determination led her to earn her cosmetology certification and eventually ownership of her beauty shop Holiday Beauty Salon in Corpus Christi. Twenty years of life later they would return to the family ranch in Mason, Texas. Always following her husband's lead, with grit and grace she returned to running the family ranch alongside Damon. Amazing memories include, frolicking at the beach with the girls on South Padre Island, helping to run Kicker Downs horse race track, surviving hurricane Celia in Corpus Christi, tirelessly moving irrigation pipe and hoeing weeds, family vacations to Kentucky and Las Vegas, and diverting rattle snakes with rocks and shooting one with her 410 to the delight of her great grandchildren. Patsy was simply devoted to Damon and her family. Loyally and lovingly guiding her children and grandchildren was her life's work, and is now her living legacy. Patsy was preceded in death by her parents Dan and Lillie Mae Waddell, her brother Jackie Waddell, and her beloved husband Damon Behrens.
Her legacy of love will be carried on by her daughters Sherry Mae Behrens of Mason and Darlene Kay Kennedy and husband Mike of Harper, her sister Linda Waddell Marek of New Braunfels, her grandchildren Ricky Newman and wife Courtney of Mason, Damon Milby and wife Roni of Hodgenville, Kentucky, and Melanie (Milby) Bruce of Kerrville, great grandchildren Jared Newman and wife Lauren, Jake Newman, Jordan Newman, Curtis Milby, Dane Milby, Kylie Villasenor, and Grace Bruce, great-great-grandchildren Morgan, Makenzie and JJ Newman. We thank God for the life of our precious Patsy, Mother, Mama, Grandma, and Granny. We wait in hope and love until we see her again!
