Patricia "Patsy"
Kay Brandenberger
Mar 30, 1944 — Apr 20, 2024
Patricia Kay Brandenberger, "Patsy", passed away on April 20, 2024, at the age of 80. She was born in Fredericksburg, Texas on March 30, 1944, to Gideon and Verna Mae Kothmann.
She attended school in Mason up until the death of her mother during her sophomore year, then moved to Nixon to live with her aunt, Nell Chesser. After graduating as Salutatorian from Nixon High School in 1962 she attended Sam Houston State University and Business School in San Antonio. She then moved back to Nixon, married Charles Derwood Mahan, and together they had two children, Sammie Kay, and Jodie Lynn. Patsy was very involved in her girls' activities. She was a member of Nixon's First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and spent many years serving as a 4-H leader. Patsy worked as a bookkeeper at the Nixon ISD Tax Office, Nixon Livestock Commission, office manager for Seguin Livestock Auction, and then office manager for Gillespie Livestock Auction. Following her divorce from Charles, Patsy reconnected with Raymond Lee Brandenberger of Mason, and they married on January 21, 1984. Calling Mason home again, she was an active member of the community, member of the First United Methodist Church, Ft. Mason Golf Association, and the Mason Ladies Golf Association. She and Raymond also served on the San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo Volunteer Committee.
Patsy led a full life filled with things she dearly enjoyed. Some of her favorites were spending time with family and friends, traveling, and playing golf. From holiday and birthday celebrations, to attending her grandchildren's activities, weekend getaways, and gatherings with friends, she loved the companionship of others. She and Raymond often traveled to Nuevo Laredo, and then of course there were the annual and sometimes biannual trips to Las Vegas. Her love for golf ran deep and she could often be found on the golf course daily. Even though she knew it wasn't a reality, she held tight to hopes of getting to play golf again someday.
Patsy was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Lee Brandenberger, her parents, brother Winnard Kothmann, stepdaughter Dee Ann Smith, and brothers-in-law Harold Schmidt and Daymond Brandenberger. She is survived by her daughters Sammie Veit and husband Mark, and Jodie Mahan; grandchildren Chelsea Garrett and her husband Cody, and Garrett Veit; sister Mary Schmidt; sisters-in-law Debbie Kothmann and Betty Brandenberger; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
