Oma Maddox Bierschwale, 90, long time resident of Harper, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 16 ^th in Fredericksburg after a short illness. Oma was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1929, to Phil and Emily Maddox on the ranch in Hext, Texas. She was the first twin born, followed shortly by her twin, Ona. Two other siblings, brother P. B. and sister, Linna followed to complete the family.

Oma graduated from Mason High School in 1948 and she and Ona attended Sul Ross for a time after their high school graduation. After a year at Sul Ross, the two were still inseparable and went to San Antonio and worked at Joske's and later at USAA Insurance.

On January 30, 1960, Oma married C.H. (Pie) Bierschwale in Harper and they moved to their ranch on Reservation Road where they lived in the same house for 48 years until Pie's death in 2008. Oma continued to live in their home until her health failed in August of 2019 when she moved to Fredericksburg Nursing Home in Fredericksburg with her twin. Ona passed away on May 17. Oma followed 30 days later, and the two will continue their unique togetherness in Heaven.

Through Oma and Pie's years together, they raised two boys, Buzzy, born in 1960, and Scott, born in 1963. In addition to raising the boys and caring for her family, Oma held jobs at numerous positions in the area and was a tireless volunteer for 4H, FFA, Harper Community Park, Harper Methodist Church and many other worthy causes in the community. Her home was always open to friends and she never knew who would show up for breakfast after a night of rodeo with her sons.

Survivors include her sister, Linna Bierschwale of Harper, sons Buzzy and wife Candy of Junction and Scott of Harper, grandchildren, Blayze Bierschwale of Coleman and Colt Brandenberger and fiancé Alex Lang of Junction. Oma is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a whole host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband C.H. (Pie), brother P.B. Maddox and her twin sister, Ona Green.

Funeral Services are set for the Harper Community Park at 11 A.M. on Friday, June 19, with burial to follow in the Harper Cemetery. Visitation is at the park from 9 to 11 A.M. preceding the service. The funeral is under the direction of Mason Funeral Home, with Pastor Neal Matthews officiating. Pall bearers are Tommy Bierschwale, Frank Townsend, Allen Tatsch, Ryan Coen, Mitchell Manor and Poncho Ornelas.

The family wishes to thank Oma's hospice nurses, Denise Hawkins and Irene Sands, along with the staff and nurses of Fredericksburg Nursing Home who cared greatly for her in her last days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Oma Bierschwale Memorial Scholarship, which can be sent to Harper FFA Booster Club, at Security State Bank in Harper.Harper Community Park pavilion. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the park pavilion. Burial will follow in the Harper Community Cemetery.
