Oleta Chapman, of Mason, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, at the age of 88. Oleta was born in Menard County on August 17, 1922 to Willie Low and Ruth (Bishop)
Low. On November 12, 1942 Oleta married Blanton V. Chapman in Stuart, Florida. At the time of their marriage Blanton was in the Army and stationed in Florida. After World War II, Blanton and Oleta ranched together and they lived in Kerrville and Gonzales before moving to Mason over 20 years ago. Being hard working people, after "retiring", they worked for the Mason School District.

Oleta believed in hard work and was never one to be wasteful. She took joy in repairing things and putting them back to good use. She loved gardening and just being outdoors and also enjoyed fishing. She loved her family and was very loved by them in return. Like many of her generation, she worked hard to do the best she could for her family.

Mrs. Chapman is survived by two sons, Gary Chapman and wife Brenda of Kerrville and Willie A. "Bill" Chapman of San Saba, a sister Ora Fay Trimble of San Angelo, 5 grandchildren: Janelle Crittell and husband Jeff of Spring Branch, Brad Zella and wife Stacy of Gonzales, Jim Zella and wife Crystal of Gonzales, Matt Chapman and wife Jill of Lakenheath Air Force Base, England, Tracie Ellebracht and husband Danny of Mason and 9 great-grandchildren: Megan and Kate Zella, Hanna, Mariah and Hunter Chapman, Chris Andrerson, Ty Ellebracht, Brianna Ellebracht and one great-grandchild soon to arrive. She is also survived by her son-in-law Robert Zella of Gonzales, a special friend Walter H. "Sonny" Durst and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Blanton V. Chapman, a daughter Patricia Zella, a daughter-in-law Brenda Durst Chapman and four Brothers: Clyde, Elmer, Ray and Joe Low.

Funeral services for Oleta Chapman will be held on Friday, October 1, at 2:00 p.m. in the Mason funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in the Gooch Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening from 5 to7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home.

Memorials in her honor may be made to the First Baptist Church, Mason.
