Mitchell Lee Bankston, a lifelong resident of Mason, passed away on January 26th, 2021 at the age of 63 after a long, courageous battle with congestive heart failure. Mitchell was born on August 2, 1957 in Mason, TX to Vernon Lee "Sonny" and Marjorie Ann Bankston. He was a graduate of the MHS class of 1975. Mitchell married Sherry Jean Mansell in 1977 and together they had 2 sons, Heath and Lance. He married Janet Jones in 2005 and they have been married 15 years. They enjoyed remodeling their home, took many motorcycle runs and road trips to gamble.

Mitchell was an accomplished carpenter and learned the trade from his father, Sonny. With this he began building for big box retailers such as Fuddruckers and built and remodeled many homes in Mason County. His claim to fame was being a perfectionist in all he did and his own shop even looked as though you were in Home Depot. When he wasn't working on one of his many projects, you could find him watching the news, cooking shows, old sitcoms or spending a day at the movies. He also enjoyed visiting with friends, cooking, fishing and his cat Bruiser. The highlight of his day was a visit from his sister, Sheila, who he adored. Last but not least, those who knew Mitchell loved his sense of humor.

Mitchell is survived by his wife Janet Bankston of Mason, TX, one son Heath and wife Michelle of Valley Springs, TX, his mother Marjorie Bankston of Mason, TX, brothers Donald Bankston of Mason, Jerry Bankston and wife Cindy of Elgin, TX, one sister, Sheila Carraway of Mason, TX, nieces Laurie, Jennifer and Sunni, nephew Jesse Walker "Lil Ed", and a great niece and great nephew.

He was proceeded in death by his father Vernon Lee "Sonny" Bankston, his son Lance Ray Bankston, his stepson Jake Winfield Wright, and his fur babies Coco and Mickey.

A memorial service will be held at the Mason Funeral home on Saturday January 30th at 10am with Pastor Curtis Bankston officiating.
