Milton Eckert's Obituary
Milton Samuel Eckert was born May 5, 1925 at Grossville in Mason County to Wesley Louis Eckert and Meta Gross Eckert. He passed away August 14th, 2011 in
Fredericksburg, Texas at the age of 86 years.
Milton attended Long Mountain Schools at an early age, speaking only German, and then graduated from Mason High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he went back home and worked on the family ranch.
He married Margaret Heimann in Fredericksburg, Texas on June 12, 1949. They lived in the Long Mountain community and ranched in Mason and Menard County. Milton and Margaret raised chickens, hogs, goats, sheep, and cattle during their lifetime, doing everything together. They enjoyed hunting, fishing, dominoes, (42 & 88), gardening, and making sausage with friends and family.
Milton enjoyed singing in the St. Paul Lutheran Church choir, and more recently, the St. Paul Men's Chorus. Milton could walk up the stairs to the choir loft, but had to back down the stairs, due to an accident received when he fell out of a pecan tree while thrashing pecans, and hooked his leg in the ladder on the way down.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Meta Eckert, a sister, Dorothy Mogford, and his loving wife Margaret.
He is survived by brother Louis Eckert and wife Elaine of Mason, sister Ella Mae Behrens of Mason, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers are Kris Eckert, Chad Eckert, Cole Eckert, Justin Sladek, Bobby Zesch, Brandon Zesch, Dan Barton, and Brett Bauer.
Honorary Pallbearers are Tommy Starks, R. C. Zesch, and the St. Paul's Men's Chorus consisting of Wayne Hofmann, Dan Barton, Bob Capps, David Scarth, Don Keener, and Pastor Tim Scheffel.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason, Texas, or to the charity of your choice.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 18, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason. Interment with military honors will follow in the Gooch Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home.
