Obituary

Miguel (Mike) J. Arteaga of Mason, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at the age of 67, surrounded by his family.

Mike will be remembered as a soft spoken man full of love and devotion. Mike was born in Los Rodriguez, Guanajuato, Mexico in 1953. His family moved to the United States where his parents settled in Fredonia, TX in 1962.  Mike attended Mason Elementary, JR High, and High School (Class of 1973) where he met his high school sweetheart Barbara Martinez.  Shortly after high school Mike and Barbara wed in July of 1973. They built their life in Mason and had three kids, Miguel Andrew Arteaga, Alexander Ray Arteaga, and Felicia Katie Arteaga Crissman. Mike was known for his work ethic as he worked numerous jobs around Mason but is best remembered for his hard work at the local Peanut Plant for 30 years and Mason Feed Store for the last 12 years.  Mike sheered sheep for numerous kids in 4-H and FFA as well as the local community and had helped many of his local feed store customers with odd jobs on ranches and deer leases. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with his wife cruising town listening to the Mason High School football games, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He recently became a grandfather to a beautiful baby girl, Raegan Crissman, whom he cherished making happy.

Mike is survived by his wife Barbara Martinez Arteaga, his father Apolinar Arteaga, his father-in-law Frank Martinez, and his daughter Felicia Katie Crissman and husband Jason of Mason and their daughter Raegan Crissman, 2 sisters Janie Garza and husband Reynol, Maria Medellin and husband Federico and 3 brothers Joe Arteaga and wife Eva, Apolinar Arteaga and Mario Arteaga. He is preceded in death by his sons Alexander Ray Arteaga and Miguel Andrew Arteaga. Mike will be dearly missed. May his memory be eternal.

Visitation with the family will be Friday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:00 at Mason Funeral Home.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 27, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in the Crosby Cemetery.

Face coverings and social distancing are encouraged.
