Obituary

Melvin Seth Leifeste passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the age of 92 years. His parents were Charlie and Cordie Leifeste. Melvin was born May 20, 1923 in Mason County where he lived all his life on the same ranch. Melvin was one of the last true ole time cowboys when a hand shake and your word really meant something. Melvin enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and never needed much except true friends, good horses, home-grown tomatoes and a good rain.

He attended Behrens School – where he quit and started breaking horses which he did all through his younger years. He enjoyed a good horse race or rodeo. You could find him sitting on his front porch enjoying his chew of tobacco, watching his cattle dog, and horses and visiting with friends and neighbors. Melvin always had many stories and even a few tall-tales along with words of wisdom which we will always remember for years to come.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mildred Farmer and a brother Paul Leifeste. He is survived by his nephew "Squeaky" Farmer and wife Tessa, great-nephews Cody Farmer and wife Chris and Cole Farmer and wife Dawn and four great-great-nephews and nieces: Jessie and Brant Farmer and Selah and Riggin Farmer.

Visitation for Melvin Leifeste will be held on Saturday, April 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Gooch Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Mason Volunteer Fire Department.
