May Owen, of Mason, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, at the age of 102. May Owen is survived by her daughter-in-law Linda Owen of Mason, 3 grandchildren: Terry Owen and wife Kelly of Sonora, Jeff Owen of Mason and Debbie Owen of Mason and six great-grandchildren: Rylee Owen, Baylee Owen, Zach Hudson and wife Megan, Rebeckah Owen, Reagan Owen and Gage Owen. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Owen, a son Douglas Owen, granddaughter Beckie Lee Owen, her brothers Delmar and Charlie Sanders and a sister Pernecia Sanders Ritter.

May was born in Mason on May 2, 1916 to Willie Sanders and Nancy Virdell Sanders. She lived all of her life in Mason. In June of 1933 she married Howard Owen and they made their home in Mason. Together they farmed and ranched in the Mason area. May was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Mason.

May was known to be a hard worker, very determined and strong willed. May was small in stature, but could out-work most people. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was even babysitting them when she was 90! May was a great cook and was known for her pecan pies, her peanut brittle and her fruit tarts. May was also an excellent quilter and the family cherishes the many quilts she made for them. She took very good care of her home and her yard. Even in her later years she could be found working in the yard and yes, even on the roof of her house!

Visitation with the family will be Friday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Mason Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. Friday morning in the Mason funeral Home chapel. Interment will be in the Gooch Cemetery.
