May Beth Evans Chew earned her heavenly wings on Thursday, December 20, 2019 at the age of 88. She was born on October 20, 1931 in Fredonia, Texas, a small community in Mason County. Her family moved 15 miles down the road early in her life and she grew up in Katemcy, Texas. Beth was the youngest of eight children of Hugh and Julia Kirkpatrick Evans.

Beth is survived by a daughter Jeanne Beth Chew of Von Ormy, TX, a son and his wife, Ronnie Leon and Suzann Schreiber Chew of Kerrville, TX, a granddaughter Jaime Alexis Chew of Brooklyn, NY, a grandson Nicholas Schreiber Chew of Von Ormy, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins whom she dearly loved.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Ray (Tom) Chew, her parents, her 3 brothers—Walton Evans, Harry Wayne Evans, and Wilford Gaile Evans, and her 4 sisters—Mildred Ziriax, Mozelle Bracy, Doris Evans and Mary Ellen Davis. As the baby of the family she was very specially treated and was always determined to get her way. Her mother, grandparents, brothers and sisters spoiled her "rotten." She attended school in Katemcy and Mason High School, graduating in 1947. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mason.

Beth married the love of her life Allen Ray (Tom) Chew on June 1, 1947, when he returned to Mason from his stint in the Army Air Corp during WWII. They settled in Mason and brought two children into the world.

Besides being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Beth worked at the variety store and movie theatre in Mason. In the early 1960's she and Tom purchased the Odeon Theatre and operated it for over 20 years along with the auto parts store. She was actively involved in these businesses, acting as bookkeeper and theatre manager.

Beth loved seeing all of the people that came to the movies and felt that she "raised" many a Mason kid when they came to the Saturday and Sunday matinees, where she was well known for her never ending quest of keeping the kids quiet and seated in the theatre. She spoiled her two grandchildren with many summer visits that included cookie making, game playing and one of her favorite past times—camping and fishing in the Llano River.

Her love of people and her wonderful sense of humor was evident to the very end. A special word of gratitude to the wonderful caring staff of River Point of Kerrville, where she resided for the past 4 ½ years, and to the staff of New Century Hospice who eased her final transition. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America or the charity of your choice.

Visitation will beheld Monday, December 23, 2019 at Mason Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Private graveside service and interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Gooch Cemetery in Mason.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel.
