Mary Lopez Palacio, of Mason, passed away on Thursday, February 8, at the age of 72. She was affectionately known as "Corè" to her friends and family. Mary Palacio is survived by her, two children: John Palacio and wife Deandra of Mason and Norma Castaneda and husband Felix of Fredericksburg, one sister: Rosario Velez and husband Edward Velez of Mason, and 4 grandchildren Devin Castaneda, John Adam Castaneda, Raegan Palacio, and Makenna Palacio. Mary was preceded in death by husband Enrique "Wedo" Palacio, a son, Enrique L. Palacio Jr., two sisters Isabella Martinez and Janie Cantu and 3 brothers Rito Lopez, Pete Lopez and Jimmy Lopez.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, February 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home with a Rosary at 6. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Melvin Dornack on Monday, Feb. 12, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Crosby Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Devin Castaneda, John Adam Castaneda, Martin Palacio, Joe Martinez, Ramiro Cantu and Rito Lopez. Honorary pallbearers will be Raegan Palacio, Makenna Palacio, Sarah Howell, and Jacob Velez.
Mary was born in Eden, Texas on June 27, 1945 to Saturino and Teodora Lopez. She was a life-long resident of Mason County and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed serving others at church as a member of the choir, handing out Sacraments to the homebound, being a part of the bereavement committee, and spending time with her prayer and Bible study groups. On June 24, 1966 Mary married the love of her life, Enrique Palacio in Mason. Mary showed her love to her family and friends through her cooking and baking. She loved to knit and sew and enjoyed spending time with her friends at the First United Methodist Church Prayer Shawl group. Music was an important part of Mary's life and she could be found listening, dancing, or singing to music any time of the day. She spent quality time and shared many laughs with family and friends playing dominoes, bingo, and cards. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
