Mary Elizabeth Davis Eastes
December 4, 1943, - June 21, 2023
On December 4, 1943, a child was born in Richardson, Texas, to Edith and Jim Davis. This child, the second of what would eventually be three daughters, they named Mary Elizabeth. Perhaps not a notable birth; the doctor's charge for pre-natal and delivery services was just $35. At her birth, Mary had one sister, Daisy Virginia. Another sister, Patsy Sue, came later.
Mary lived around and in Richardson, attending school first at the old Greenville Avenue building, but being in the first senior class to graduate in 1962 from the new Richardson High School on Belt Line Road.
In 1965, Mary met George Eastes and they married June 17, 1967, and just a few days ago, celebrated 56 years of life together. The life they shared was a life of joy, until Alzheimer's dementia robbed her of that joy and took the light from her eyes long before they were ready to give it up.
Mary was skillful with her hands, doing knitting and other needlework, doing ceramics, always engaged in some activity creating things of beauty. She kept herself fit with regular exercise.
Mary worked up until 2004, mostly in small offices, providing administrative assistance to owners, managers, and employees in insurance and in oil and gas businesses. She and George enjoyed travel, seeing Europe, Canada, the north and west US, and western and southern Texas.
Long time residents of Dallas, Texas, Mary and George found life in Dallas too fast and busy for them in retirement, so looked for a peaceful place to enjoy their retirement years. They found it in Mason, Texas, moving there in 2005. They attended First United Methodist Church, and enjoyed friendship with fellow members.
Mary had many years to enjoy the love of her parents and sisters. Jim died in 1997, Edith in 2011, and sister Virginia Williams in 2019. But her sister, Patsy Collins of McAllen, Texas, lives on, as do her nieces, Kimberly Williams of Garland, Texas, and Cassandra Flores of McAllen, Texas, and a nephew, Wesley Williams, of Winona, Texas. Mary's long love affair with her husband, George, may have ended for her, but he still holds memories of the beautiful young girl he married so long ago.
The life that began as perhaps not a notable birth ended on June 21, 2023, enveloped with the love of those who remember and were affected by the joy she brought to all she did.
A time of visitation will be held at Mason Funeral Home, Mason, Texas, on Thursday June 29, 2023, at 1:00 pm, followed at 2:00 pm by a service to remember the life of Mary held in the chapel of the Mason Funeral Home. The shell that once held the joy we knew as Mary will be interred on Friday June 30, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Sachse Cemetery, Sachse, Texas,. alongside her sister, Virginia, in a plot purchased by George's grandfather in 1900. George will join Mary there at the appropriate time, where they'll lie with George's parents, one and eventually two of his brothers, and two of George's father's brothers.
May God bless the family of Mary and George Eastes.
