Martin Velasquez Martinez, of Mason and San Angelo, passed away on Sunday, August 26, at the age of 64. Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 31, at 10:30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Crosby Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife Diane Martinez of San Angelo, two sons Martin M. Martinez and wife Kara of Lubbock and Mitchell Martinez of San Angelo, his father Frank Martinez, four sisters Barbara Arteaga and husband Miguel, Eva Arteaga and husband Ambrosio, Elvira Sanchez and husband Homer, Virginia Ramirez and husband Johnny all of Mason, brothers Emmitt Martinez of Mason and Gilbert Gomez and wife Santos of Ozona, 3 grandchildren Mitchell Caiden Martinez and Amelia and Melody Martinez, and father and mother-in-law Antonio and Lupe Gomez of Ozona. He was preceded in death by his mother Guadalupe Velasquez Martinez and a nephew Alexander Ray Arteaga.

Martin was born in Mason on March 22, 1954 to Frank Martinez and Guadalupe Velasquez Martinez. He was a graduate of Mason high School and attended Angelo State University. On April 10, 1976 he married Elizabeth Diane Gomez in Ozona. They lived in Ozona for many years before moving to San Angelo 19 years ago. In San Angelo he and Diane were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He worked in the oil and gas industry most of his career with the last 7 years working for E P Energy as a lease operator. He was a hard-working man and worked up until a few days before his death. He was also a man of determination as he fought cancer for 6 years.

Watching football and little league baseball were two of Martin's favorite things to do. He was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Tech Red Raiders! He also was a supporter of "Twin Mountains Tonesmen, a group that is grandchild sang in. He was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather. His friends and family will miss his loving heart and his sense of humor.
