Martha Kirchhoff Smith went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2020. She passed away at her Mason, Texas home surrounded by her family.

Martha was born to LeJeune and Wilbert "Bert" Kirchhoff on June 9, 1951. After graduating from Mason High School in 1969, she attended Texas Tech University where she earned a Bachelor degree in English and History in 1972 and a Masters of Education in Reading in 1974. Martha was a public school teacher from 1974 to 1997. From 1998 to 2005 she was Project Coordinator and a Research Associate for the Vaughn Gross Center for Reading and Language Arts at University of Texas at Austin. Martha was a lead author, co-author, and editor for many published reading programs and presentations. After her retirement in 2005, Martha was an educational consultant travelling all over the United States providing workshops and training sessions for teachers.

Martha loved spending her free time reading, sewing, and quilting. She enjoyed sharing all of these skills with her two granddaughters.

Martha is survived by her husband Michael Smith of Mason, Texas, two sons Matthew and fiancé Jenny, and daughter Silver of Stephenville, Texas. Hadley and wife Ashlie, daughter Ashlyn, and son Kai of Cypress, Texas. Two sisters Melissa Taylor and husband Robin, Marie Kirchhoff, a brother Mark Kirchhoff and wife Tammy. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Bert and mother LeJeune.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Wednesday November 11, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will be held in the church fellowship hall following the Memorial Service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Hill Country Hospice, MD Anderson Cancer Center, or Mason Education Foundation.
