Marilyn Garrett Bennett, 73 of Weatherford, Texas passed away on January 16, 2022 as the result of cancer. Marilyn was born July 23, 1949 in Fredericksburg Texas to Al V. and Mary L. Garrett. Marily spent her childhood in Mason, Texas, graduating from Mason high school in 1967. Her most prized accomplishment was being on the winning State rifle team consisting of 3 girls and one boy.

Marilyn began and ended her career with the State of Florida, where she worked within the Technology organization, retiring as a computer programmer.  Within that period, she left for several years to work at BellSouth (AT&T) where she had a successful and rewarding job in computer operations.

In retirement Marilyn enjoyed antiquing, collecting vintage clothing, and raising a small flock of chickens who were likely the best fed flock in the state of Texas. Marilyn also loved hunting rocks, arrowheads, and had quite a green thumb with house plants. Marilyn also loved to eat. She enjoyed going out to eat and the holidays where there was always a variety of delicacies. She also enjoyed attending her high school reunions where she was reunited with her classmates. She stayed in contact over the years with her best friends Kathy and Craig Tallent and Marsha Finlay.

Marilyn is survived by her son Brian Nyby of Charlotte, North Carolina and two grandchildren, Kaitlin Nyby and Nicholas Nyby. She also leaves behind her brother James Bryan Garrett and wife Jo-Anne of Weatherford, Texas and sister Kathy Schulze and husband Donald of Mason, Texas. Niece, Jeanette Slack and son, Tom Garrett Slack of Wichita Falls TX, Nephew, Derrick Schulze and daughter, Kenley Schulze of Mason, TX, niece, Carrie Schulze Gonzales and husband, Julian Gonzales, and son, Carter Gonzales of Mason, TX. She's also survived by a host of cousins and two aunts.

A service will be held on February 26th at the First United Method Church at 2pm, with burial following at the Gooch Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Friends of the Courthouse Project, First UMW of Mason or organization of your choice.
