Marie Metzger, of Mason, passed away on Monday, August 25, at the age of 94. Marie was born in Streeter, Texas on October 31, 1919 to Alfred Otte and Rosa Jane (Pike) Otte. She was a graduate of Mason high School and a member of the Mason First United Methodist Church. In her earlier years she wanted to be a funeral director and worked with Gertrude Ernest who operated a funeral home at Koocksville. She eventually decided that profession was not for her and she went to beautician school in San Antonio. She met and fell in love with Percy Garner Metzger and were married. Percy worked for the military during the war and when World War II ended Marie and Percy moved to Mason where they had purchased a service station. In Mason, Marie was a homemaker and dedeicated her time taking care of the family. She liked to garden, raising vegetables and flowers. Marie was also a talented artist working with oils and pastels.
Survivors include her son Gary "Ronnie" Metzger and wife Diane of Baldwin, MO and a grandson Max Metzger of Boston, Mass. Marie was preceded in death by her husband Percy Garner Metzger.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 28, at 10:00 a.m. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Colleen Haley leading the service. Interment will follow in the Crosby Cemetery.
