Maria Elisa Mutis passed from this life peacefully on Thursday, December 22,2022.

Maria Elisa was oldest daughter of Emilio and Cecilia Mutis, born in Bogota, Colombia. Her mom, Cecilia passed in 2008 while her dad, Emilio died in 2019. Maria bravely fought her cancer for several years and participated in experimental drug trials to help others in the future.

Maria taught Orchestra for 30 years in the Odessa schools and enjoyed playing First Violin with the Big Spring Symphony in Big Spring, TX; the Southwest Symphony in Hobbs, NM; and the Roswell Symphony in Roswell, NM.In 1968 her father did geological mapping of the Mason area and she would often return with him and became close friends to many people around Art, Tx who took both she and her dad into their homes.

They built a new home in Mason after her retirement and she quickly became involved in St Joseph's Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing her violin weekly at both the Saturday evening Mass and Sunday mornings at the Art UMC where her friends worshipped. She was diligent and endeared herself to many people although she had a "prickly" personality. She loved many people and had a large spiderweb of friends wherever she went. Maria was also generous with her income and supported many charitable institutions. Over the years she sponsored several children in Colombia and recently established an endowment for Music students at UT Permian Basin in Odessa.

She will be missed both for her musical talents and her love of the older residents of Mason whom she assisted thru the Mason Senior Center.

Rosary prayer service is planned for Tuesday, Dec 27, 7pm at Mason Funeral Home Chapel. Her funeral Mass will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Wednesday, Dec 28, 1pm with interment following at Crosby Cemetery next to her parents.
