Maria Morquecho Menchaca, of Mason, passed away on Monday, December 4, at the age of 85. Maria was born on February 1, 1932 in Fredericksburg to Estevan Morquecho and Ramona Towns Morquecho. In 1946 she married Alfredo Menchaca and they made their home in Mason. In Mason they were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Their marriage was blessed with 6 children.
Maria is survived by her children Jimmy Menchaca and wife Lucy of Mason, Jesusa Lafuente of Lampasas, Johnny Menchaca of Mason, Mary Castillo and husband Manuel of Burnet, Alfred Menchaca Jr. and wife Malva of Mason and Sara Berreles and husband Hector Louis of Mason, brothers and sisters: Adolfo Morquecho of Memphis, Delfina Martinez of Mason, Carolina Menchaca of Mason, Joe Morquecho of Fredericksburg, Mike Morquecho and wife Carolina of Mason, Beverly Morquecho of Mason, Ernest Morquecho and wife Rosa of Mason, 13 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfredo Menchaca Sr. and two brothers Johnny and Tony Morquecho.
Fishing was Maria's passion. She was still talking about going fishing last week when she was in the hospital! Maria saw it as her job and her duty to care for her family even in these last years. When asked if her ailments hurt she would say "just a little bit". She wanted to care for others she did not others to have to care for her. "She was "a tough old lady"! Maria enjoyed cooking crocheting and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home with a Rosary to follow at 7. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 7, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Melvin Dornak leading the service. Interment will follow in the Crosby Cemetery.
