Maria Teresa Esparza, born August 15, 1931 to Matilde Caldera Valdez and Dario Valdez in San Antonio, Texas passed away at home on October 18, 2009 with her family by her side. She was 78.

Teresa was a very strong willed and independent woman. She moved to Mason over 15 years ago to live with her daughter and son-in-law. It was a different world to her after living in a big city all her life, but with time she adjusted.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jesus G., four of her children, Ernest, Peter, Lena, and Jesse Frank Montoya and by her brother Dario Valdez, Jr. She is survived by her daughter Liz Sapien and husband Freddy of Mason, grandson Frank Montoya and wife Tracy of Mason, grandson Freddy Sapien III and wife Emily of Hilltop Lakes, TX, numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored.

Funeral services for Maria T. Esparza will be held graveside at San Fernando Cemetery #3 in San Antonio on Wednesday, October 21 at 2:00 p.m.
