Lou Ellen Simon was the eighth child born to August and Maude Brockman Simon in a small house on the banks of the Llano river in south Mason County on January 15, 1936. She married John Dalton Fleming in Mason on August 19, 1954, and is preceded in death by her beloved husband and granddaughter-in-law, Melissa Scoblick Estes.

Lou Ellen had several hobbies, including gardening, and cooking desserts. She worked outside the home, but helping John take care of the ranch was her lifelong passion. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren at the river swimming and fishing. Quilting was another passion she enjoyed. She took great pride in the quilts she made for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lou Ellen was content staying at home, however she loved to travel with family and friends. She would be ready to go at a moments notice. Her niece, Betty Simon, was one of her favorite traveling companions, and their time spent on the cruise ships were some of her most memorable traveling experiences. Her most recent trip was to Branson, Missouri where she spent time revisiting places that John and her had enjoyed together.

Though she was at times encouraged not to drive she insisted on driving around Mason and McCullough Counties playing dominoes with close friends. She was very competitive, and enjoyed hosting dominoes at her townhouse. There was very little that would keep her from playing.

She was an active member of the Church of Christ. She taught children's bible classes, and for thirty years she mailed packets of bible lessons to individuals who requested them through the World Bible School Organization. She also provided her son-in-law Fred with World Bible School packets for the inmates that were being held in Mason.

She loved her family and friends and lived a wonderful life till the very end. She peacefully passed from this world in the early morning on December 7, 2023 surrounded by her children.

Mother was dearly loved by all her family and is survived by daughter, Georgia Ann and Benjamin Alvin Draper of Arlington, Texas; Sherry Gale and Fred Ray Estes of Mason; and John Carlton and LeAnn (Cope) Fleming of Mason.

Precious to her were her grandchildren and great grandchildren:

Shayla Brook (Estes) and Jerry Allan Robertson, III and their sons, Jerry Allan, IV and Fred Archer of San Angelo, Tx

Colton Brown Fleming and Mariza Orola of Mason, Tx.

Lex Logan and Katie Delane (Laverty) and their son Tate Monroe of Mason, Tx

Lou Ellen will be dearly missed but her memory will remain in our hearts forever.

Visitation with the family is Saturday. December 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be Sunday, December 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the Mason Church of Christ building.  Interment will follow in the Gooch cemetery.
