Lila Jo Polk of Mason passed away Thursday November 15, 2018 at the age of 88. Memorial arrangements are pending with burial to be at Gooch Cemetery.

Lila Jo was born near Pontotoc, Texas on Thursday, October 9, 1930 to Ossie and Lois (Underwood) Chew. She attended elementary school in Pontotoc. When her parents moved to Mason in 1940, she entered the Mason school system. After graduating from Mason High School, she attended Hardin-Simmons University where she played clarinet in the college band. She later transferred to The University of Texas where she was a member of the West Texas Club.

On September 16, 1950 she married Dick Gipson Polk of Mason. She was bookkeeper for Mason Auto Supply before becoming a full-time homemaker.

Lila Jo served for many years on the board of the Gooch Cemetery Association. She was a former member of Riata Service Organization and belonged to the First United Methodist Church of Mason where she loved singing in the choir.

She is survived by her son Richard Polk of Mason, daughter Cara Polk of Austin, sister-in-law Wanda (Stapp) Polk originally of Mason, nephew David Polk and wife, Adrienne of Palestine, and nephew Ned Polk and wife, Karie of Midland.

Memorials may be made in Lila Jo's name to the Gooch Cemetery, Mason County Cancer Benefit, or any other charity of your choice.
