Lela Rosa Polk, of Mason, passed away on Monday, May 3, at the age of 93. Lela was born on October 15, 1916 in Mason County to Alfred Kuhlmann and Rosa Jacoby Kuhlmann. On August 31, 1935 she married Walker Polk. They made their home in the Streeter-Long Mountain area of Mason County. In addition to helping Walker with the ranch work, Lela also worked in Mason. Her outgoing personality and friendly manner made her a favorite with the customers at the places she worked, Lemburg grocery, the Auction Barn and at Western Auto. She was a great seamstress and enjoyed spending time working in her yard. Lela was also a great cook and her family will especially miss her german chocolate cake, chocolate meringue pie, banana pudding and fig preserves. She also enjoyed teasing and joking with people in a friendly way.
Lela is survived by her son Kenneth Polk and wife Carla Beth of Pontotoc, 2 brothers Clayton Kuhlmann and wife Beatrice of San Angelo and Dayton Kuhlmann and wife Mary Lou of Fredericksburg a sister Nellie Mills of San Antonio, 2 grandchildren Kenya Abbott of Brady and Billy Dale Polk and wife Pam of Pontotoc, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild along with many nieces and nephews. Lela was preceded in death by her husband Walker Polk in 1979 and by the following sisters and brothers: Alma McDougall, Eddie Kuhlmann, Hilmar Kuhlmann, Benno Kuhlmann, Clarence Kuhlmann, Damon Kuhlmann, Lee Roy Kuhlmann, Perry Kuhlmann and Ella May Kuhlmann and a grandson Kurt Polk.
Funeral services for Lela Polk will be held on Friday, May 7, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Gooch Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home.
