Koby Tyler Smith was born June 17, 1985 in Fredericksburg Texas to Ted and Trish Smith. He went to be with his Lord November 18, 2018. A sixth generation Masonite, he grew up on the family ranch in Mason along with sisters, Heather and Brigett. He graduated from Mason High School in 2004 where he was a member of the 2003 District Champion Mason Puncher football team. Koby was an active member in 4-H and FFA, exhibiting Angora goats and market steers at livestock shows throughout the state. He attended Angelo State University and graduated from Texas A&M TEEX Brayton Firefighter Academy in College Station.
Koby was employed as a lieutenant with the Brady Fire Department and was working to attain his paramedic certification. He had recently accepted a position with the City of Fredericksburg and was to begin duties in January 2019.
Koby loved hunting, fishing, cooking, and sausage making. He also enjoyed wood working, welding and was very devoted to his firefighting career and co-workers. Koby enjoyed family gatherings, backyard football games, golf, time spent with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins but most of all the time he had with his daughter, Annalise. She was the icing on his cake and he loved her dearly.
Koby is survived by his daughter, Annalise Smith of Kerrville and his parents Ted Smith of Mason and Trish Smith of San Angelo. Also surviving are sisters Heather Lock and husband Brandon of Brookeland, and Brigett Mikulik and husband Garrett of San Angelo. Koby is also survived by his grandmother Carolyn Smith of Fredericksburg. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Terry Smith of Fredericksburg, Bill Holmes of Harper, Duane Holmes and wife Barbara of Harper, Stephen Holmes of Harper, Barbara Walter and husband Tom of Fredericksburg, and Carolyn Rodgers of Tennessee. Koby is also survived by nieces and nephews, Addison Lock, Grayson Lock and Avery Mikulik, as well as a host of cousins and friends.
Pallbearers bearers will be Michael Pape, Chad Holmes, David Holmes, Tim Holmes, Kyle Pape and Nathan Walter. Honorary pallbearers include firefighters from the Mason, Brady, Fredericksburg, San Angelo and surrounding counties who knew and worked with Koby.
He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Visitation with the family will be Saturday, November 24, from 10:00 a.m. till 12:00 noon at Mason Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Mason. Interment will follow in the Gooch Cemetery with full fireman honors.
