Mary Catherine "Kay" Butler Reichenau Poynor died Saturday, December 17 at her home on the hill near Honey Creek at the age of 90 years. She was born June 14, 1926 in Crystal City, Texas to Richard and Georgia Butler. She grew up there and graduated from Crystal City High School in May 1945. That same year she met Cpl. Hilton Reichenau while he was stationed at the Army Air Range on the Chupadero Ranch between Eagle Pass and Laredo. They married June 3, 1945. They moved to Hilton's home in London, Texas until 1947 when Hilton's uncle, Roy Zesch hired him as ranch foreman. Kay and Hilton lived and worked together on the ranch in Mason County until his death, October 3, 1996.

Kay treasured her family. She loved teaching her son and grandsons how to hunt and fish. She was willing to spend many hours in a deer stand and keeping those boys quiet was a big challenge. Kay and Hilton loved watching their grandsons compete in various sports while attending school in Mason.

Kay was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for 71 years. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary, helping cook and serve countless meals. She was a member of the Riata Service Organization, Puncher Band Mothers, PTA and the Hill Country Cattle Women. She and Hilton also enjoyed their monthly Bridge Club and the Friday night supper group.

Kay married Jamie Poynor on June 9, 1998. They enjoyed 18 years together. Kay is survived by her husband, her son Del Roy Reichenau and wife Lynn of Mason, one sister Maurine Morris of Rancho Velejo, Texas, grandsons Mac Reichenau of Plano and Walt and wife Kassi Reichenau of Mason, great-grandchildren Lindsay Musil, Caleb, Grace, Mia, Jaxson and Tanner Reichenau, one niece Georgia Phillips and one nephew Dickie Warren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Betty Warren and nephew Charlie Warren.

Visitation with the family will be Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 20, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason with Rev. Fred Krebs leading the service. Interment will follow in the Gooch Cemetery.
