Obituary

Julius DeVos, of Mason, passed away at the Knopp Nursing Home in Fredericksburg on Sunday, August 21, 2011, at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby. He is survived by a son Kenneth DeVos of Fredericksburg, a daughter Sharon Lake and husband Terry, of Haywood,California, two grandsons Kevin DeVos of Buda and Doug DeVos and wife Jessie of Bay City, and a sister Martha DeVos of Illinois.

Julius was a Navy veteran of World War II, a civil engineer, rancher, and author of ten books on Texas history (especially Mason County) and genealogy. He was an active member of the Mason County Historical Society and a civic volunteer.

Funeral services for Julius DeVos will be on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at Hilda United Methodist Church. Interment with military honors will follow at the Hilda Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Smith, Don Daniel, Donald Schulze, Herbert Loeffler, Mark Lehmberg, and Bryan Bierschwale. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, August 24 from 5-7p.m. at Mason Funeral Home.

Memorials, in honor of Julius DeVos, may be made to the Hilda United Methodist Church.
