Judy Lea Cravens Schoenfeld, of Art, Texas, passed away on March 11, 2017, at the age of 74. She was born on April 15, 1942, in Brooksmith, Texas, to Howard and Faye Lindley Cravens. She graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1960, where she enjoyed playing basketball.
After obtaining her education from Austin Community College, she worked in electronics industry for Houston Instruments. One of her proudest moments of her career was when she assisted with building one of the first large room-sized computers, when computers were at their infancy. She later assisted with building computer components that ultimately were used to scale-down computers and other electrical equipment into a smaller, more portable format.
While caring for her sons, she quit work and became a full-time mother. Although, that would normally be a full-time job, she was able to find time to pursue her passion. She had so many creative talents. She was an excellent seamstress, excelled in interior decorating, and created wonderful paintings. She sold some of her artwork out of her home, in art shows, and at the Kerrville Art Gallery. She did, however, opted to keep her favorite pieces that line the walls of her family and children's homes. When her youngest son, Cody, was of age, she decided to enter the workforce once again, working for the Llano Memorial Hospital and Davenport's Pharmacy.
In retirement, Judy volunteered much of her time. She was a member of several organization and clubs: Arts and Crafts Club, Study Club, Art Organization, Mason Library, and the Mason County Museum. One of her last of many accomplishments was the book that she wrote called the Mason Country Schools that included her personal drawings of historical schools within Mason County and personal stories from members who attended these schools. She spent much of the last years of her life researching and documenting the information contained within the book.
Judy is survived by her husband of forty-nine years, George Paul Schoenfeld; a son, Michael Wayne Hoffman and wife Julie of Llano, Texas; another son, Cody Ray Schoenfeld and wife, Heather of Highland Village, Texas; seven grandchildren Christina Hoffman, Justin Hoffman, Rachel Hoffman, Chrystaleigh Hoffman, Amanda Lewis, Ricky Chamberlain, and Cameron Schoenfeld; and several great-grandchildren. She has two brothers, Gary Cravens and wife, Artyce, of Austin, Texas, and Ronald Cravens and wife, Sharon, of Burnet, Texas, and preceded in death by her sister, Teresa Cravens Casparis and late husband, William.
Funeral Services for Judy Lea Cravens Schoenfeld will be held on Wednesday, March 15, at 2:00 p.m. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Gooch Cemetery. Her nephews will serve as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 p.m. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel, on the Tuesday prior to the service.
Memorials in her honor may be made to the Mason County Museum or the Mason County Cancer Benefit.
