John Dalton Fleming's Obituary
Mr. John Dalton Fleming of Mason passed away on Wednesday, June 9 at the age of 76. He was born in Mason County on July 20, 1933 to John Alton Fleming and Annie Lee Cowsert Fleming. John went to Fly Gap School and Mason schools where he participated in track and agriculture.
On August 19, 1954, he married Lou Ellen Simon. Throughout their 54 years of married life, the family lived in Mason, Kerrville, Mansfield, and back to Mason. During this time he had various jobs which included being a mechanic, route salesman, truck driver, and rancher. After he retired, he worked for Mason County and later became commissioner of precinct 2. He loved his family, the church, and Mason County. He was a deacon at Kerrville Church of Christ and Mason Church of Christ. He especially liked to watch the grandchildren participate in sports. John was a member of the Lions Club in Kerrville. In Mason, he was on the board for Farm Bureau and the Historical Society. John couldn't enter the service because of high blood pressure, so, when the 21st Cavalry Brigade Apache helicopters from Ft. Hood wanted to have maneuvers on his place, he considered this his way of helping. He was also privileged to let handicapped veterans hunt on his land. He was a life member of the N.R.A. John's all time favorite song was "Chain of Love" by Clay Walker.
John is survived by his wife, Lou Ellen of Mason, one son Johnny C. Fleming and wife LeAnn of Mason, daughters, Georgia Draper and husband Ben of Arlington and Sherry Estes and husband Fred of Mason, one brother, Robert Gail Fleming and wife Mary Beth of Austin, a sister-in-law Louise Simon of Mason. He was also survived by his grandchildren: James Draper, Julie Sandoval and husband Jerry, Brock Estes, Bryce Estes, Shayla Estes, Colton Fleming, and Lex Fleming and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services for Mr. Fleming will be on Sunday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mason Church of Christ building with Wayne DeDear presiding. Interment will follow in the Gooch Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Saturday evening from 5-8 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home.
