Copeland
Jul 28, 1942 — Jul 5, 2025
In Loving Memory of
John Clayton Copeland July 28th, 1942 – July 5th, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Clayton Copeland, aged 82. Born in San Francisco, CA, he spent a life full of wisdom, warmth, and generosity.
John was known for his curiosity, quick wit, strong character and deep understanding of human nature. Over the years, he left an indelible legacy of military and civil service. In his later years he pursued nutrition and exercise and delighted in regular walks throughout the town of Mason, TX. John was a thoughtful and humble benefactor. Whether sharing stories from the past or engaged in topical discussions, his bliss was always in making connections with others.
John will be remembered for his companionship and generosity, his love of classical and jazz music and his enthusiasm for writing and literature.
A private celebration of his life is being planned. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to Mason Community Thrift Store
INVICTUS:
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
