Jean Lyon of Mason, who never met a stranger and loved to talk, read, garden and cook for her family, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 12, 2022, in Kerrville, TX at the age of 80.
She was born Sandra Jean Berry on August 5, 1942, in Dawson, TX to Marshal and Nettie Berry. She attended school in Cisco, TX including Cisco Jr. College and later North Texas State University, where she received a bachelor's degree in home economics.
She married Gerald Wayne Lyons on June 20, 1964. The couple moved to Mason, TX in 1965, where they purchased the Mason County News. She briefly taught for Mason schools before welcoming three children and later working side by side with her husband at the News office. After retiring, she stayed busy running the Bahaffer Guest House and was active in Art United Methodist Church.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her brother Rex, and her husband.
Jean is survived by children: Jeff Lyon and husband Billy, Jill Parker and husband Michael and Jay Lyon, grandchildren Jack Parker, Jordy Parker and Jolie Parker; sister and brother-in-law Rose Mary and Don Williams; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 18, 2022, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Monday, December 19 at 10:00 a.m. at the Art United Methodist Church. Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Rising Star, TX.
