Jean Flowers Dudney was born on July 15, 1938, in Canton, Texas, to Bryant and Roberta Flowers. Jean went home to her Lord and Savior on April 17, 2021, in Llano, Texas. She graduated from Howard Payne University with a Bachelor of Physical Education and received her Masters of Education from Southwest Texas State University, where she was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus by the Kinesiology Department.

On December 22, 1962, she married Wayne Dudney, and together they enjoyed fifty-eight years of marriage. Jean was a devoted wife, a loving mother to Curtis, Brad, and Karla, and an adored grandmother to her six grandchildren. She enjoyed everything outdoors and was constantly planning family camping, rafting, and skiing outings. She enjoyed gardening, working around the ranch, watching any and all sporting events (especially those of her grandchildren), and organizing Camp Mason for her grandchildren. She is known by many for her homemade biscuits and her famous peanut brittle. Jean's walk with the Lord was an example for all. She was indeed an angel on Earth with her comforting hugs, inspiring smile, infectious laugh, loyal friendship, and unconditional love.

Professionally, Jean taught at both the secondary and college levels, coached, was widely published, and won honors for her teaching, dedication, and participation in her professional organizations. Jean was a Professor Emeritus at San Antonio College, where she taught from 1969 until her retirement in 1995. She was also an adjunct professor at The University of Texas at San Antonio in the Kinesiology Department. Jean was active in many organizations throughout her career, such as the American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart and American Red Cross. However, her involvement in the Texas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (TAHPERD) was most dear to her heart. Her service exemplified her passion for physical education and wellness. Jean served TAHPERD in many capacities, from section chair to President. Jean was awarded the David K. Brace Award for her leadership and involvement at both the state and national levels.

After moving to Mason in 2000, Jean and Wayne quickly established themselves as active members of the Mason community. Jean was involved in the inception of Habitat for Humanity in Mason County, serving as their second president. She also served as President of the Mason Study Club and helped begin the Mason Elementary Book Buddies. Jean was an active member of the First Baptist Church and participated in the Methodist Women's Bible Study.  Jean was an avid fan of Mason Cowgirl Basketball, following them to playoff games around the state.

Jean is survived by her husband, Wayne Dudney of Mason, Texas, her three children and their spouses, Curtis and Angie Dudney of Mason, Brad and Jocelyn Dudney and Karla and Steve Ellis of Boerne, Texas, her grandchildren, Kyle Dudney, Ryan Dudney, Cason Dudney, Shea Dudney, Samantha Ellis, and Cade Dudney. She is preceded in death by her parents Bryant and Roberta Flowers, and her brothers, Dean, James Lee, and David Flowers.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held at First Baptist Church in Mason, Texas, on Friday, April 23, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. The service will be live streamed at facebook.com\mtxchurch.  Following the service, guests are invited to join the family in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made in Jean's name to the following organizations: Mason County Habitat for Humanity, Mason ISD Education Foundation, the restoration of the Mason County Courthouse, or a charity of your choosing.
