James William "Jimmie" Dunlap Jr. was born on May 20, 1926 in Austin, Texas to James William Dunlap and Rilla Potter Dunlap. Shortly before finishing high school Jimmie's mother became ill. He quit school in order to help look after her and help with the medical bills. He joined the navy and served on an ammunition ship in the South Pacific during World War II. His ship frequently traveled without an escort and narrowly escaped being torpedoed!

After the war Jimmie came back to Texas and in 1951 married Lorene Haines at the Methodist Church parsonage in Mason. They made their home in Austin where they were together for 59 years. "Jimmie" worked for Railway Express Agency for 33 years. After "retiring" he worked for many more years as a contractor building and repairing houses in the Austin area. Jimmie was a member of Valley View Baptist Church. In his spare time he loved to go hunting and fishing, look for arrowheads and spend time with his family.

Jimmie is survived by his wife Lorene Haines Dunlap of Austin, two sons James William "Jim" Dunlap III and wife Teresa of Port Lavaca, Greg Dunlap of Mason, two granddaughters Tanya Dimak and husband Greg of Port Lavaca, Renee` Wood and husband Everett of Port Lavaca, three great-grandchildren Mason Wood, Wimberly Wood and Isabella Dimal all of Port Lavaca and a brother Billy A. Dunlap of Georgetown.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 3, at 2:00 p.m. in the Mason Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery at Camp Air. Visitation with the family will be Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home.
