James Bassham, of Mason, passed away on Thursday, September 28, at the age of 74. Visitation with the family will be Monday, October 2, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Mason. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Ryan Buck leading the service. Interment of his cremated remains will take place at a later date.

Survivors include his wife Linda Bassham of Mason, 10 children: Troy Bassham of Palestine, Kim Heiner and husband Jimmy of Palestine, , Brad Bassham and wife Holly of Fort Worth, Brian Bassham of Fort Worth, Brett Bassham of Rapid City South Dakota, Traci Macnab of Rapid City South Dakota, Hope Williams of Austin, Sara Gibson and husband Joshua of Missouri City, Naomi Robledo and husband Jesse of Midland and Victoria Martinez of Midland, a brother G.H. Bassham and wife Gladys Bell of Corsicana and a sister Clovis Mason and husband Don of Springtown along with 19 grandchildren. James was preceded in death by a daughter Stacy Bassham and the following brothers and sisters: Henry Bassham, Ida Mae Russell, Daphine Beasley, Gneva Connors and Thomas Bassham.

James was born in Corsicana on November 18, 1942 to Wilburn Bassham and Roxie Ann Donawho Bassham. He was raised in Navarro County and worked as a truck driver for most of his life. He married Linda in 2005 in Midland. They lived in Midland for 8 years before moving to Mason about four years ago. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mason. James was a jack of all trades and an excellent mechanic. He actually built his first car at the age of 13! He enjoyed fishing, guitars, music and story-telling. Most of all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.
