Jack Evans Crouch passed away on Wednesday, November 9, at the age of 83. Jack was born in Menard, Texas to Wiley Crouch and Ruth Millsap Crouch. At an early age he started doing ranch work and building fence. He continued in this line of work for many years working on the Block House Ranch and for Jack Walker at Hedwig's Hill. Jack farmed peanuts before he went to work for the City of Mason as the Animal Control Officer. He was well known for his kind treatment of animals and his gentle treatment of their owners. Many people throughout the state know Jack for his help as a hunting broker, a profession that he truly loved and enjoyed for over 40 years.

When not working, Jack had a passion for fishing for catfish. While he enjoyed catching, he was allergic to fish and couldn't enjoy the taste of his catch! Jack also loved to work with his hands making rustic works of art out of metal, wood, deer horns and deer skins and enjoyed giving those items to friends and family.

Jack and his wife Jane were together for over 40 years. Together they have five children: Gary Crouch and wife Maureen of Fort Worth, Jerry Crouch and wife Lyla of Mason, Susan Hughes and husband Mike of The Colony, David Eugene Gross of Azle and Ronald Gross of Covington, Louisiana along with 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Ray Crouch.

Funeral services were held graveside at the Gooch Cemetery in Mason on Saturday, November 12, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Chad Barnett officiating. Visitation with the family was Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were Jerry Crouch, Doug Crouch, Cracker Crouch, Keegan Crouch, Harold Gentry and Eric Beam. Honorary pallbearers were Jesse Caraway, Billy Wayne Cook, Lee McMillan, David Heiden, Matt Clark and Sonny Durst

Memorials in honor of Jack may be made to Mason County EMS or to Operation Orphans.
