Isabel Lopez Martinez, of Mason, passed away on Monday, July 22, at the age of 80. Isable was born in Castell, Texas on July 7, 1933 to Saturino Lopez and Teodora Lopez. As a child she moved quite a bit with her family. On October 26, 1954 Isable married Arculano "Cano" Martinez in Abernathy, Texas. Their marriage was blessed with nine children.

After a few years Isabel and Cano settled in Mason. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Isabel was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Her life revolved around caring for her family. This started at an early age as she would make tortillas and help prepare food for her family starting at the age of 7. She was an independent woman who liked to take care of things on her own. Even during her illness she did not want help cooking, washing and caring for her husband. She said "That's my job!" She loved going to the river and camping with her family and they loved the camp bread she would make in a dutch oven. She was a beautiful lady that who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband Arculano "Cano" Martinez of Mason, 7 children: Joe Martinez and wife Irene, Daniel Martinez and wife Becky and Chappo Martinez all of Mason, Rosa Morquecho and husband Ernest of Mason, Irene Gutierrez and husband Joe of Sealy, Martha Lopez and husband Mike of San Angelo and Amelia Pena and husband Tony of San Angelo, 14 grandchildren: Adrian Medrano, Joe Martinez Jr., Marcus Martinez, Michael Allen Lopez, Timothy Pena, Samuel Christopher Martinez, Marky Martinez, Ernie Martinez, Josie Carrasco, Jasmine Martinez, Daniella Martinez, Trista Pena, Solita Menchaca and Crystal Beamer, 16 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren, 2 sisters Mary Palacio and husband Enrique of Mason and Rosario Velez and husband Edward of Mason. She was preceded in death by 2 sons Samuel Martinez and Martin C. Martinez, parents Teodora and Saturino Lopez, 2 brothers Rito and Pete Lopez and a sister Janie Cantu.

The Funeral Mass for Isabel Martinez will be celebrated on Friday, July 26, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason with Fr. Melvin Dornak leading the services.. Interment will follow in the Crosby Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 at Mason Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are Adrian Medrano, Joe Martinez Jr., Marcus Martinez, Michael Allen Lopez, Timothy Pena, John Palacio and Ramiro Cantu. Honorary pallbearers are Josie Carrasco, Jasmine Martinez, Daniella Martinez, Trista Pena, Solita Menchaca, Crystal Beamer and Samuel Christopher Martinez, Marc Martinez and Ernie Martinez.
