Obituary

Higinio "Pepe" Ramon Jr. of Mason, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at the age of seventy-one. Pepe was born on March 29, 1949, in Fort Mckavitt, Texas, to Higinio Ramon Sr. and Rosa Ramon. In 1971, he married Natalia Martinez of Mason. Together, they had three kids Angel Arredondo, Higinio "Trey" Ramon III, and Charles Ray Ramon.

Pepe is survived by his wife, Natalia Ramon, daughter Angel Arredondo and son-in law Hyman Arredondo of San Marcos, daughters in law Amanda Ramon and Jordan Ramon, and grandchildren Estrellita Steward, Higinio "Derek" Ramon III, Brantlin Ramon, Isla Ramon, and Cruz Ramon. Pepe is also survived by his siblings Ruben and Delia Ramon, Ben and Mary Ramon, Lupe and Velia Ramon, Albert and Millie Ramon, Ruth Gonzales, and Cesario Ramon.

Pepe is preceded in death by his mother and father, Higinio Ramon Sr. and Rosa Hernandez, his sister Mary Saucedo, and his sons Trey and Charlie Ramon.

As a true outdoorsman- Pepe attended school up to the 4th grade, and then he went fishing. To provide for his family, Pepe worked for the City of Mason and Mason ISD, broke horses, sprayed mesquite, built houses, and welded. Pepe was a prominent member of the community as he was a volunteer fireman for over two decades, a member of the Chain Gang for the Mason Football Department, and a constant source of humor. Pepe loved a good fishing spot, hunting for arrowheads, spending time with his family, and dancing to good music.

Pepe, a strong cowboy, surpassed medical professionals' expectations by living for twenty-four years with a heart transplant and a multiple bypass surgery in March of 1996. Because of this, he's been included in medical studies and was instrumental in mentoring other transplant patients as they prepared to receive their transplants.
