Obituary

MASON – Harvey W. Zombro, Sr., of Mason, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, at the age of 83. Harvey was born April 19, 1928 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania to Lacy W. Zombro and Joyce Small Zombro. He was raised in Pennsylvania and enlisted in the Army during World War II. In November of 1967 he married Helen Riddle and they were together for 32 years. Harvey retired from the Army with the rank of Master Sergeant in 1980 with over 28 years of service. Most of this time was spent in the medical field. During his years of service he received many awards and decorations including Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal (with 2 bronze service stars), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Army Commendation Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal.

After retiring from the Army, Harvey moved to Mason in 1983 and was Administrator of the Mason Care Center. He was the co-founder of C&H Computers, which stimulated interest in computers throughout the area. He was also active with the Bible Baptist Church and Community Church, both of Mason.

Harvey is survived by his children: Harvey Zombro Jr. and grandson Ryan Zombro of San Antonio; Barry T. Zombro and wife Kim of Mason; stepson George Hensley and wife Sandra of Phoenix, AZ; stepson Dennis Wood and wife Alice of Bedford, VA; and stepdaughter Carol Ann Johnson of Taylorsville, NC., daughter-in-law Vicki Zombro of Portsmouth, VA. He is also survived by 2 sisters Margaret Hammer of Pottsville, PA and Jeanette Stegeman of York, PA and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Riddle Zombro on September 6, 1999, his son Robert J. Zombro on March 3, 2006, stepson Charles Coleman, Jr., grandson Barry Zombro, Jr., a son-in-law Bob Johnson, a daughter-in-law Irene Zombro, a daughter-in-law Jo Ann Zombro, and by his brother Tracy Zombro in 1973.

Funeral services will be at Mason Funeral Home in Mason, TX on Tuesday, July 19 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Dan McBride officiating. Burial will follow in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:30 with military honors and Masonic services. Visitation with the family will be Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home.
