Harriet Lange, of Mason, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, at the age of 71. Survivors include her husband "Pug" Lange of Mason, a son Greg Lange and wife Brenda of Mason, 2 brothers James Smathers and wife Pat of Lufkin and Winfred "Pee Wee" Smathers and wife Mary Lou of Valley Spring, 2 sisters Frances Barrick of Lubbock and Marilyn Reed and husband Jimmy of Abilene, two granddaughters Samantha Bankston and Tantha Ake and a great-granddaughter Karrie Lee Bankston. She was preceded in death by a son Bradley Roy Lange and two brothers "Bud" Smathers and Lester Smathers.
Harriet was born in Llano, Texas on August 1, 1942 to Forrest Smathers and Ella Mae Hein Smathers. She was a graduate of Llano High School. On July 9, 1960 she married "Pug" Lange in Valley Spring. They were together for over 53 years.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Mason. Harriet was a member of the Hope Circle, sang in the choir and frequently played the piano for early services. She also gave the children's sermon on most Sunday's. Harriet was an avid golfer and tennis player and was a member of the Mason Golf Association. She ran the day care at the Methodist Church for many years and then operated a day care at her home.
Funeral services for Harriet Lange will be held on Saturday, November 23, at 10:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Mason. Interment will follow in the Wagram Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home.
